Rangamati: Places to Visit in the Hill Districts of Beautiful Bangladesh

Any place around Kaptai Lake offers a surreal view of the lake and surrounding small islands with indigenous tribal villages and hills. Two primary things I would always like to do here are boating on the Kaptai Lake and taking a CNG (local vehicle) drive to beautiful hill roads surrounded by lush greenery.

Kaptai Lake is Everywhere

One would definitely enjoy exploring the vibrant lifestyles and traditions of the indigenous communities, interacting with locals, and experiencing their culture firsthand. During the visit to the villages, especially the islands, embark on adventurous treks along the lush trails of Rangamati, discovering hidden gems and picturesque viewpoints.

Anyone visiting Rangamati should explore the largest man-made lake in Bangladesh via boat rides, relish the scenic beauty, and discover floating restaurants and islands. You can go to the boat docking stations or even to a nearby market and ask anyone to manage your boat for the day.

Shuvolong Waterfall

Usually, they will take you to Shuvolong Waterfall, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by dense forests, offering mesmerizing views and a soothing ambiance. There are a few stoppages on the way, as you can have lunch on an island with local tribal cuisine and a few viewpoints and markets to explore more about them. I mostly enjoyed the late afternoon boat ride while coming back to the boat docking station, being indifferent while enjoying the sun setting beyond the horizon.

Kayaking on Kaptai

I also enjoyed kayaking on Kaptai Lake. There are a few agencies that offer renting kayaks and charge on an hourly basis. We kayaked for around 2-3 hours and enjoyed every bit of it. Later, we went to visit the Navy camp museum, which is not far from the kayaking place and offers beautiful views of connected islands and viewpoints.

CNG Ride to Khagrachori

We took a CNG ride in the late afternoon from outside the Navy camp and set off for Khagrachori, another beautiful hill district in Bangladesh. This road was one of the most beautiful Bangladeshi hill roads I had ever visited.

Hanging Bridge

Last but not least, there is a Hanging Bridge (Jhulonto Bridge) where one can experience crossing the iconic Hanging Bridge over the Kaptai Lake, providing stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.

Wrap Up

These attractions in Rangamati provide diverse experiences, from natural beauty to cultural heritage, making it an enticing destination for travelers seeking a unique and immersive experience.

In the end, there is no fixed destination here. It is all about the beautiful Kaptai, and you will enjoy it anywhere around it.

I was born to explore. 😊
